HARRISTON LIBRARY | HARRISTON, ON

COMPLETED IN: 2012

AREA: 11,700sf

TYPE: ADDITION / RENOVATION

With the acquisition of a neighbouring site, the former Carnegie Library in Harriston was permitted a generous addition. The 5,200sf expansion to the existing 6,500sf building includes not only necessary accessibility upgrades with new elevator and barrier free washrooms, but also a complete reorganization of the collection spaces. The existing building received new interior finishes with building and infrastructure remediation as required. An updated kitchen enhances the community room, providing a well-appointed multi-purpose rental space. Moreover, an expanded circulation desk, librarian’s office and meeting room alleviates the previous constriction in staff work areas. The local Arts Council and Historical Society find new and improved accommodations within this new “cultural hub.”
